School System

The different stages constituting the Spanish education system are outlined in the graph on the the left.


Pre-School

 

It is organised into two cycles of three years each.

The first one (0-3 years) is on a voluntary basis for families, where the purpose is to give educational assistance and attention to early childhood education.

The second one (3-6 years) is voluntary free and constitutes the first level of school education.

 

Primary Education

 

After pre-school, children have to attend 6 years of primary school, which is common education for every children.

This educational stage is divided into 3 cycles.

 

Secondary Education

 

After primary education, students go onto compulsory secondary education or Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO) between the ages of 12 and 16 years old, at an Instituto de Educación Secundaria, Colegio Concertado.
